Just the same as the cancelled theatre shows, upsetting the seeks ,
Protesting out side with there swards .
The fearer these nutters have created in British society should never have been tolerated.
It's just crushing the things we should believe in, free speech

This may have been a good move after all on safety grounds. We have seen today the death of the American Ambassador in Libya.. a great shame..others may have died too, all over some film made in the USA. I havent seen the American film nor the C4 film but the reporter on the news today said the American film was extremely provocative and insulting. Reminds me of that weird pastor burning the Koran down there in Missisippi or somewhere. Nothing is/was achieved by it.

i haven't seen the american film but the channel 4 documentary was in no way inflammatory paul.
the historian involved was merely trying to trace the roots of islam and made great play of the art, architecture, literature etc inspired by it.
the problem was tracing the prophet and who he actually was as he did not crop up anywhere in stories of the time in the middle east.

I wonder if the C4 death threat came from someone getting confused re the two films.

Paul, that American Pastor didn't burn the Koran in the end after many hundreds of fellow Christians wrote to him and demonstrated from the Bible just how un-Christian such an action would be and how it would be a very poor witness.

Neil, apparently he did burn the Korans inside his church & was fined $300 by the local fire dept. It also appears he had some connection to the offending film according to radio 4 PM programme.

Yep he did burn a copy of the Koran, Neil, and triggered off an episode in Afghanistan.
Can't remember how many people got slaughtered there, mostly through protesters attacking police.

Oh, I stand corrected. The last I heard on this was that he had decided not to. When I heard that he'd decided not to do the public burning I stopped paying attention. He must have chosen a different day and time to do it and not publicised it in the same way.

aha, found the follow-up story. The time I remembered was when he backed off in 2010. Turns out he went ahead and did a few inside his building in April this year without pre-advertising he was going to do it, but he did stream it live to the internet.

did anyone else see the documentary and have an opinion on it?
the main thrust as i saw it was that islam developed over a period of time with many influences rather than just springing from the koran.

Didn't see the documentary, Howard.
That I know of, Mohammed is said to have written the Koran in a few seconds in a miraculous manner.
Islam developed in the sense that there was a dispute as to who was his successor, and thus the Sunni and Sch'ite groups emerged. Many more groups of Islam later developed, including that of the Alawites, who have a more spiritual view.

Not only in war, but even in a "squirmish", truth is the first victim...

after reading that it makes the protests look even more ridiculous, i assumed that the film had been on u.s. television.
just a rogue amateur internet effort, i wonder how many of the protestors consider a jihadist video of a stoning or beheading a good evenings entertainment?
