With respect, the opinion of the good burghers of Calais counts for nothing in this. As far as non-local politicians are concerned it's a tiny localised problem which rarely gets mentioned in National Newspapers or National broadcast news.
A couple of thousand non documented would-be emigrants is neither here nor there compared to the +100,000 asylum applications last year, the countless (and certainly uncounted) hordes flooding in from Italy, and the tented cities appearing on the boulevards and under the fly-overs of Paris.
