Kent County Council says its budget is overspent by £4.5m because the authority has a large number of asylum children who have now left care but which it continues to have to support.

    A couple of points here.

Firstly the current system asks councils to take some young asylum seekers but very few do which leaves Kent with the burden. It should be compulsory that each local authority plays their part.

Secondly allowing them to stay in foster care when they are old enough to leave is wrong costing the taxpayer more money.
