The majority of the public doesn't want cuts in the Police numbers, in fact we need more Police.
The recent riots have proved this.

London is rife with knife and gun-carrying crime, and the riots started with an incidence of gun crime, when someone was threatening public security with a loaded gun.

To reduce Police numbers would mean giving in to the people who find this normal and then go on the streets attacking and threatening the Police for doing their duty.

These same protesters (who believe that it is normal for someone to threaten the public with a loaded gun) started off the riots and looting, and we should not give in to them.

They even had the audacity to state that the initial attack on the Police in Tottenham was a "peaceful protest", even though its participants started attacking the public and destroying public infrastructure and sparked off 5 days of mayhem in many English cities.

I suppose it was "political correctness" on the part of the media to say that this initial protest "was peaceful". Quango-equality policy, so as not to "offend" people who just will not accept that crime is illegal.
