doesn't seem to be much logic here, over hadrians wall the blues are as welcome as a turd im a bouncy castle.
the other parties are strangely quiet over the issue.

I would let the Scots have TOTAL independence but they would have to fend for themselves with no financial help from central government.

There's plenty of room for the nuclear subs at Dover then Jan?

It's doubtful Dave was trying to make a political party point on the proposed issue of separation of Scotland from Britain, but rather one of national unity of the four constituent countries.
I don't believe British union is considered by anyone as being subordinate to party policy, which is why many Scots who voted for the SNP are unionists.

Why would you (if you were Scottish) vote for the SNP if you are a Unionist Alexander ? - the SNPs sole aim is independance from the UK; you would know that before you put your cross.

Roger, are voters in Scotland or indeed the UK as a whole spoilt or spoiled for choice?
Perhaps the voters of Scotland simply did not wish to vote for a party allied to, connected to or controlled by a main group at Westminster?
Maybe the SNP simply fielded enough decent candidates and the other Partys less so?
The SNP do not have it all to themselves in any case...

I am sure DHB could make room
More seriously I am sure there are plenty of 'safe havens' to be found around the coast of England that would welcome the nuclear subs.

I thought the nuclear subs were orginally sited there when they were
1) new technology and people were scared of them spontaneously combusting
2) a target for the ruskies
I wonder where we'd put them using the same criteria today? Got to be on the west coast so they can reach deep water quick so Liverpool's in (and it's got a cruise terminal with spare capacity), Lowestoft's out

It would be a bit difficult for the Conservative party to be taken seriously in Scotland as they only have one MP representing the country (unsure of the constituancy), this has got to be a collective offer including all three political parties.

"all three" Barry?
All this pushing a Westminster agenda could easily yield unintended consequences.
These voters are people, not sheep. Best for the opposing viewpoints to be freely aired...all then rejected, most likely.

Well maybe just two, I was kidding with all three to see what sort of response it would get

flashman upset the scots with his rather patronising offer of possible goodies if the voters said no.

Roger, the opinion polls show that many SNP voters are unionists.
However, in Scotland there is a desire for a change to the Union, so not everyone who wants change to the present establishment is for an end to Union with England.
I too am for a refounded Union, first of all without a private family as head.

I visit Scotland regularly and haven't noticed any great call on the streets for independence. I had a feeling the pro SNP vote was a disaffected Labour vote from those who wouldn't vote for either of the other two major parties rather than a genuine desire for independence.
I was going to look for election statistics to see if they gave any backing to this view but hit a bottle of cider at lunchtime and gave up looking. Just been reading this though and the third comment down (from a Peter Thompson) is interesting reading in this respect.
If you don't want to read the whole article, it's summed up at the end -
"I would suggest that Lord Robertson was prescient about devolution killing political parties stone dead but he got it wrong about which parties. Labour in Scotland 23% in opinion polls this week and falling. If a general election was held next week, the SNP would take 43 Westminster seats."
