Cannot find the thread from a year back where Phil W-B gave advice on the above, hopefully he can remind us of the do's and dont's.

Phil recommends not getting your camera wet.
I dropped my Canon G1X in a water butt earlier this year, and after I'd dried it out every way I could the dry rice in a Tupperware container finally did the trick, though it took three months before I was fully confident in it.

I keep one of those clear plastic shower caps (the sort you get in hotels) in my camera bag. It comes in useful if it starts drizzling, I just pop it over my camera and the elastic ensures it stays put. It serves a purpose until it either stops raining or I put the camera away (and is quick to remove when using the camera.)

What a great idea Jeane! Thanks for that, one thing to remember about camera care is that the cold will drain batteries vey quickly, so always carry a spare and keep it close to your body if you can, that will keep it warm.
