Join SeaFrance staff at Kingsdown Beach for their quarterly beach clean
March 2011 - If you love the seaside, show you care and join SeaFrance staff as they take part in their quarterly beach clean for the Marine Conservation Society. Staff will be collecting and monitoring litter at Kingsdown beach on Wednesday 6 April. If you'd like to come along and help out, the team will be at the Oldstairs Road end of the beach at 3pm. Cleaning equipment will be provided, but it is recommended that any children bring their own gloves. For more details call SeaFrance on 01304 828300.
SeaFrance is the lead sponsor for the Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch initiative. The project is now in its 19th year and sees thousands of volunteers take part every year, making Beachwatch the most influential fight against marine litter in the UK.

Yes have added the picture now. As you can see its a seagull completely wrapped in a plastic material and clearly about to die before too long. One of the items highlighted previously during this campaign was the social habit of balloon releasing on a large scale. This became popular for a while. I remember it was done here in town to mark the launch of the Dover Festival. I have a picture somehwere in the archives that one of the chaps sent me...hundreds of ballooons but just seven people at the launch but there we are. This activity is now frowned upon in nature circles as all that rubber can get tangled up with the wildlife and very often does. Im sure locals have taken note of same.email: dover7@msn.com
