No I cant understand the logic either. Yes he did have his spell in the limelight Brian but it was during a time when he was everyone's darling, everyone's Uncle Vince (before the strained credibility kicked in)...now he is more like Uncle Silas!!
I suspect this weird logic is forced into play by the fact that the Libdems have very little potential leadership material at their disposal. Tim Farron is very weak, the fact that he has risen to the top shows how dire the leadership situation is. Huhne is surely a non runner..he has had his shout.
What surprises me is that there is no mention in the article of Simon Hughes. I cant think why this would be, he is very personable on TV and comes across very well and very believable. He is deputy leader of the Libdems after all..yet appears to be airbrushed out of further advancement.
I can only think this is down to the scandal of several years back when he was involved in a public decency situation with another male in a public toilet if I remember right. it shocked everyone as he has female relationships as well. Whatever the situation anyway, it appears the Libdems have long memories, longer than the general public who appear to be more forgiving.

trouble is brian, he is associated with all the reneging that the yellows did when they made their lunge for power.
surprises me that party members have not opted for the untainted squeaky clean simon hughes.

Ah there we are Howard we both posted at roughly the same time and both opted for Simon Hughes...very likeable but alas he has a few skeletons in his cupboard and not quite as squeeeeky dayglo clean as you might expect. But it was a while ago and we all make mistakes. He may be a tad flawed but he is still the best of them media wise.

you're right there reg, boris is certainly climbing the greasy pole.
cannot see him as a threat at the moment though, flashman looks in complete control of his party if not the economy.

firstly cable would be a disaster for lib dems.
the lib dems are further behind than labour in rebuilding there party.
they are the mistrusted party of the 3.
simon hughes i had time for, but he recently sold out taking on one of cleggs jobs trying to justify things.
as for boris whenever people say they are not going to challenge cameron
normally means before long they will.
