Cab for one.

18 December 2013 20:16255807Does anyone know if "Cab for one" are still running.To any members that havent heard of them,they are the little 2 seater Smart car taxis that were regularly seen running round the town.A friend of mine used to use them and said they were very good and cheap too.I,m round the town daily and used to see them often but i havent seen them for some time now.Are they still in business? - Brian Dixon

Lets just put things straight shall we.
As I am the person who came up with cab for 1.( not cab for one ) I thought I would just put the story straight for you.
After 18 months of trading extremely well I decided to sell the business to another chap from Dover. who unfortunately could not be granted an operators licence from ddc.
To my sadness after lots of hard work He chose not to proceed with the business at all and closed it down.
The 4 cars were sold to cmw in dover which is another very successful business.
The phone number 202020 was transferred to Dover royal taxis. yet again another very good business.
So for you Howard, that has nothing better to do with your sad little life than to gossip about this town all day long. the story has been put straight.
If anybody is wondering who howard is..... he is the sad little old man that skulks around the town on a daily basis taking photos of things and making complaints on a daily basis.
with the thousands of comments on this site from him I'm surprised he's never had a good slap...

Did you mean 'surprised he's never had a good sleep?'
In 8 years he has only posted 50231 times on the Dover forum. Allowing for leap years this equates to posting days available is in the region of 2900, an average of 17 times a day.
Taking into account Howard posts on other sites too, throw photo taking, research, travel, meal times and shopping trips into the mix, when does he ever sleep!?
This would also pose the question as to whether this could affect his stature so raising this issue is a little unfair on him.
Just curious.
- 21 February 2016 18:45310874As the cars were out of existing policy it had to go to committee. I made the application based on a high percentage or journeys in taxis being for just 1 person. The committee loved the idea and backed it. so much so that we had the dover town council travel contract. they knew it was a good idea and it gave Dover something new. The cars had ample luggage space the shopping etc. We took off very quickly.
There are several websites and facebook pages filled with comments about cab for 1. It is rather sad to see it close after all the hard work. The only reason I sold it was to allow somebody with more financial backing and a fresh approach to take it to where it wanted to be.
Things to always pan out the way you wish.
