Story in the DE about a chap wanting to get a direct bus service to the William Harvey Hospital.
People are invited to send a text message to 60777 to show their support.
DON'T, it is a premium rate number used by such people as the BNP. The message that you add directs the money to which ever organisation is using it at the time.
I think the DE should have made that plain.

i never knew that were premium rate charges for text messages.
Thank you for that Terry. Isn't there a law against not making that clear?

Thank you for the warning Terry,
Surely the Dover Express should have said how much a text would cost and who was receiving the money as it is a premium rate. Having said that there should be a direct bus service to WWH it is an awful journey which is why I always pick Canterbury as it is so much easier.

it's a good scam, at present it is a big issue as at present dover people have to get to folkestone wait about 20 minutes for the ashford one, then it winds its way through country lanes to ashford.
stories abound of journeys taking 2 and a half hours each way for a 10 minute appointment.
i believe there was a direct service at one time.
So, I suggest we close the local facilities as that is clearly meeting local need.

After reading the DE this morning I decided that I would sign the online petition. My husband has recently spent four days in WH and we think a direct bus route is a good idea. I object to paying for two hours minimum parking when collecting him took 20 minutes. It is also impossible to guess how long you will need a parking space when going for tests etc -something which the jobsworths in the car parks do not understand. My brother-in-law who lives in Toronto was recently hospitalised and there it is possible to purchase a season ticket at a reasonable discount which any member of the family can use.
Fortunately I remembered this thread. Thank you Terry for highlighting the costs of the text. The DE really should have pointed this out. There are so many knowledgeable (and witty) people on this forum.

Given the number of jobsworths on duty at any of the E Kent hospitals, I can't see why they can't organise a ticket-on-entry/pay-on-exit system. Then everyone would pay for the time they use.

Peter:

you are so right - both times. As long as they don't decide to charge by the minute. Now that would be a nice little earner. I also had problems with the parking machine as it would not accept our pound coins. If it had not been for a kind gentleman behind us in the queue swapping coins with us I would have had to pay by mobile phone which adds another 20 pence.
