The concessionary bus pass is a boon to many,
They contribute nothing, not even a penny,
But some wingers say, why should it be free?
They ride from Deal to Hastings just to have tea!

Now us oldies know better and are simple amazing,
Still paying their dues too, not on other tax payers grazing,
They have worked, yes worked hard, paid a lifetime of taxes,
Helping the economy survive so there’s no need to grind axes!

They sometimes struggle to climb onboard the rickety buses,
Waving their passes to get out and survive, despite trusses
Still intent, even late in life, not to be a burden to their brothers,
Creating jobs for drivers, mechanics, shop workers and others.

So next time you board a bus which many old people are using,
Think of the effort they are making to keep them, not abusing,
At first sight it may appear that they are a burden and a cost,
But without their get up and go efforts many routes would be lost!
