Oh, it would be a shame to lose all those lovely views, let's campaign against the demolition. Then it might happen ASAP.

Yes, I can't imagine how the castle ever got planning permission with these nimbies around protesting to the council.

FORENSICS officers have been investigating after copper piping was reported stolen from Burlington House this morning.
The theft was reported to Kent Police at 11am and the forensics officers have been scouring inside the empty Townwall Street eyesore for evidence.howard mcsweeney1- Location: Dover

my heart goes out to the poor unfortunate owners of the building, what can they have done to warrant such a thing?

Some electric wiring was also removed. Police are now following a few leads.

Good one Philip.
I have been told the owners do not pay Council Tax or Business Rates therefore do not contribute to police funds, so why are the police wasting valuable resources on the "eyesore".

The owners of Burlington House do not pay any business rates because the toilets have been taken out and so now enjoys the same classification as if it were (already) demolished.
They have made mega-money from the telecommunication masts on top, which seems so wrong. Peter (Garstin) set up an on-line petition to make them pay business-rates but I believe it came to nought.

Yes Roger, I set it up just before the last general election and all petitions were frozen a few days later when the election was called. Arse!

Arse indeed Peter.
I find that incredible Howard; the photo should have made them realise Burlington house is still standing and I'm sure you advised them that income is being generated from the telecommunication masts, but no business rates being paid.

Business rates are being paid on the rooftop mast installations- paid by Vodafone and others. Last time I looked it was about £24,000 a year.

Not really Roger. Suppose the Charlton Centre was assessed on one bill? How would the various small businesses in there get charged and how would they get their small business rate relief?
