  I write this from a very snowy Leicestershire. We got back from Dover yesterday. Apparently we are being advised to build large snow men to slow down the thaw when it comes at the weekend to avoid a repeat of the flooding before Christmas!

  Amid fears that the recent snow will melt into floodwater as temperatures pick up over the weekend, the agency had offered worried homeowners an unorthodox suggestion.

  Indeed it was the environment agency who put out this advice to media outlets. The same environment agency who issued this report regarding last years drought lasting till Christmas and beyond:

  When I heard this on the news early this morning I just had to laugh, how a so called educated person would think an idea like this would work completely astounds me. The only way this snowman idea would make the slightest difference would be if snowmen were all over the hills and fields not in a few back gardens.

  Maybe some University could draw-up plans for drainage channels and aqua-ducts made from compacted snow for areas at risk?
  These could be used as 'Cresta-runs UK' until the thaw set in.

  Besides lifting the occasional shopping trolley from local rivers and advise us to build snowmen to alleviate flooding risks this is apparently what this extremely well funded agency does for us all:
