We have a Buddleja in our garden, how we got it nobody knows.
As a small shrub it is quite attractive but as it grows it becomes hideous but the number of Butterflies it attracts
is amazing.
As you approach it,it explodes with hundreds of Butterflies some as big as a wren.
It will be removed at the end of summer but planted in an appropriate place next year.

The best way to treat Buddleia is to prune it well back each year, I have a lovely deep purple one in the garden that we have treated like that every year and I used to have a pink one up in Suffolk as well as the usual lilac coloured one.
Butterflies seem to prefer the lilac coloured, while bees seem not to be fussy which one they go on.

Yes, they do well if you can find time to cut right back in the autumn, but it is hard work. The new branches will have bigger flowers.

Any buddleia fans should have a look at the old MFI site, I'd guess they're 6 foot high.
Somebody mentioned that DDC were developing that site with hotels, cinemas, shops and restaurants...............

Leave the area a little longer and it might become an area of scientific interest

................ or teeming with the kind of wildlife that we could do without like rats.

competition is now hotting up in the dover's best buddleia competition, this example between asda and the charlton centre has much to commend it.
