I think part of the problem is being a GP is not promoted as being as important as a hospital doctor so no perceived glory, if that is the right word. Whereas a GP has a lot more basic knowledge as he/she deals with so many different illnesses both simple and complex, they also do minor surgery.

Receptionists do put up with a lot but at the same time that is part of the job and always has been. There are good ones who are brilliant but also a lot of bad ones who should not be in the job as they are not people friendly.

I wish there were more telephone consultations, quite often that is all that is needed, a few minutes where information can be given instead of a lengthy wait among the inevitable coughs and bug carrying people in the waiting room.
