The old work house part was listed but apparently it is being demolished, I thought it was just the newer part up the hill that would be allowed to go.

Update, they have not started on the old part yet.

I live in this part of town and I haven't seen or heard any of this "anger" regarding the demolition though I could understand the council putting some form of stoppage in place if the notification of demolition hasn't been processed yet.
I say this because I have checked listed property listings in the area and none of the old hospital is listed, not even the former workhouse part. I'm not sure where people got the idea that it is listed from, but I'd happily admit I am wrong if someone could prove that it is. I personally don't think it should be because it has zero architectural merits.
I personally am in support of the site clearance because it's an eyesore for the area and none of the buildings seem of the quality that they could be easily turned into homes.

I live in the area and I'm angry about it, maybe I wasn't loud enough!
I have to disagree about the workhouse, it is the only building in this part of town with architectural merit and is a huge piece of dovers heritage God knows there's little enough left!
The real eyesores in the area are the abandoned cars, the people with zero respect for their neighbours and environment happily fly tipping and dumping their domestic waste anywhere and everywhere but in a bin and the total lack of self respect of so many residents whose properties look like they have been abandoned some of these make the flytipping at the Crypt look positively delightful.

There are a few using the internet as their point of reference so it is important the facts are correct regards the former workhouse, maybe there was talk of that part being listed but not done.
The hysterical comments on Facebook that I read make me laugh as well as annoyed especially the bit about asbestos, I am sure the workers would protect themselves so it would be removed in the correct way.

Just been reading up on this listing business and while it is true that Buckland Hospital is not recognised by Historic England the site states that there is such a thing as "local listing" which individual councils confer on certain properties and they then decide what can and and can't be done to them.

Can't really comment on that Baz well before I moved here. Heard people say what a lovely building it was and others say it was falling to bits anyway. As far as I can ascertain it was bulldozed at 0500 hours on the 16th of July 1988 - that is just an approximation of course.

Brook House was a beautiful building that was in a poor state but I would have said not past repair, it was deliberately allowed to get in the state by the council who obviously wanted it gone.
Where the Brook House demolition is concerned that was blatant sculduggery on someones part although when queried it was a case of 'not me guv'. If the same thing happens to the old workhouse I will expect a similar response.

Option 2 clearly the best for us with A & E back at Canterbury and more departments added at Buckland hospital.

Agreed Howard.
Definitely more central than Margate so much easier to get to for so many, not just those of us from this area, together with a 'free building'.
