Last weekend I received a call from Reception on my ferry asking if I could change the TV channel being shown to the passengers as they were new and didn't know how to do it. Apparently a lot of passengers were asking to see the F1 German Grand Prix. I duly showed them how to change the relevant Digibox in the Server Room to BBC1 then went round with a remote control checking the passenger TV's as they have an option of live TV, children's DVD or the DFDS promotional channel. Seeing this, another passenger asked me if he could have ITV as a Briton was doing rather well in the Tour de France. In the event, Lewis Hamilton won the German Grand Prix and Mark Cavendish took the green jersey in the Tour de France so everybody was happy.*
* Saying Mark Cavendish took the green jersey reminds me of an advertising campaign by The Times many years ago. They put up posters saying what proportion of different professions bought the newspaper. One poster on a London railway station stated "90% of top clergy take The Times." Underneath this some mischievous city gent had scribbled "the rest pay for it!"
