There will be an open day on Saturday 29th June on the Roman Lawn, off the Market Square (between Discovery Centre and Painted House). The replica of the Dover Bronze Age Boat will be on display, along with Bronze Age craftworking displays etc. All welcome, 10am to 3.30pm.

hopefully the recent vandalism hasn't done too much damage.

It is some saw marks along one top edge. Caretaker disturbed a group of teens in the tent, police investigating. It isn't too bad and we can repair by filling (replacing the planks would cost a fortune). But it is very sad and rather depressing. But the boat still looks great!

Thanks Andrew.
It is a shame that these brainless morons can't find something constructive to do.
Has it been "water-tested" yet so it can go out on the sea ?

Quite.
Regarding making the boat seaworthy, we need to raise several thousands of pounds to get the necessary work done. we will be fund raising on 29th and relaunching an online crowd sourcing campaign via Kickstarter.com on July 1st. Every penny helps!

Thanks Andrew - didn't realise it was going to cost a lot of money to do that - good luck with the fund-raising.

The reason it will cost so much is that it needs taking apart and all the seams re-sealing (with moss and beeswax) and re-stitching with yew withies. And we need the very skilled wood workers who built it to do that and they need paying and accomodation.
So we'll see what we can do, but would be a great asset (and advert) for Dover if we can do it (and if we can prevent it getting chopped up by mindless yobs).
