after reading the comments here about broken windows in london road i thought i would pop down and have a look for myself, all fairly unpleasant.
thankfully the cultural heart remains unaffected.

All part of a good night out, get bladdered, have a fight and put some windows in! I despair.

Your pictures say a thousand words Howard, that area IS covered by CCTV as far as I'm aware or just outside of it.
why is this happening? are we being fobbed off? paying our tax for something we are not getting. CCTV operators asleep, not in touch with the bill. or more to the point NO one interested.

ian
our new commander promised us action on this sort of thing but i doubt if has the person power to carry it out..
i think i read on here that officers were called from places as far apart as margate and new romney to attend incidents in dover.

You hit the nail on the head there Howard........PROMISES.
NEVER listen to that word again from people in charge.
The word promise should be defined as ( maybe, possibly, could be, might be, might not be, who gives a toss I'm being paid anyway.)
I said this before on another thread. (They don't mind and you don't matter)
you gotta laugh, we listen, they get paid big bucks for telling us what we already know.

I'll ask the Manager of the Community Safety Partnership if there are CCTVs along London Road.
Do we know the period over which they were broken; were the broken windows confined to those 3 businesses or were there more, Howard/anyone ?

The town's CCTV camera is right outside my house. Although it could in theory see as far as the Cherry Tree traffic lights I doubt if there would be detail enough to identify any culprits in the area of Baldwin Salter etc. You have to bear in mind that unless the operator is specifically watching something the camera will be on automatic doing a 360° sweep. It can't be everywhere at once.
Equally Eva's is between the London Road camera and the one opposite the Age Concern shop in High Street. Again, it is highly unlikely that anything will have been seen. With Eva's it all rests on her own CCTV.

I'm in the camp that says if the CCTV in Eva's shop has clear pictures and those responsible are charged/convicted
we should name and shame them.
The shop in pencester often excludes people who have shoplifted from them, they did for a time put there pictures in there shop window with there photo and reason why they banned them.

I believe it is what we have lost that is the cause.
All thanks to so called do-gooders.
In the past, a clip round the ear, a stern talking to and the threat of telling your dad, from a burly 6ft copper, was enough to put the culprit on the right road.
That was lost many years ago.
Then came CCTV, which worked for a while and still does for convictions but is not now a deterrent.
CCTV does not prevent these people from breaking windows etc, that has been lost.
Going back to old policing would not work because they would not have the same powers and the culprits wouldn't care if their parents were told or not.
So what is the solution?

We don't want to go overboard with our concern for the victims.
I notice that the Cinema in the US where so many were killed while watching 'Dark Knight' has invited the families of the deceased to the re-opening. This has not gone down too well.

Something is done.
I recall another town up for the Portas money intending to paint something exciting upon the roller-shuttered high street shop fronts.

I have heard that Eva's CCTV shows a woman being the culprit.
Second- hand though, so not certain.

wouldn't surprise me there was a documentary a few years ago about drunken violent young women in town centres after closing time - some shocking scenes.
