    The government is under no legal obligation to rescue citizens from the consequences of their own overseas adventures. When we refused to be repatriated from Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War, we were issued with a gasmask each. When the dust had settled we were billed for 4x£90=£360. I didn't pay it on first demand so the embassy spoke to my employer and it was deducted from my pay. Anyone who is brought home from trouble spots will be billed for the cost.
