    Come Actors, churchmen, sweaties too
    and harken to my plaint
an foul-injustice cries out to you
be awestruck, (shame on all that aint)

    The unsung hero weeps anew
    an aching heart is wrung
we that don't too must surely do
there'd be no roses without dung

Where'd be the warrior with no foe
    those first without the last
with no victim who could crow
none slow; so what is fast

"They also fight who stand and wait."
the poet long ago thus writ
    each tradesman has his mate
    each labourer does his bit

So much for all, now to the rump
    from sun-kissed beach to nitty-grit
as none my trumpet dare to trump
I can no longer not give a whit

I've stood on terraces and sat
    I've cheered-on and I've roared
yet live where none can swing a cat
I've bought the strip, but never scored

The 'Odeon' too has seen me oft
    a fortune on pick-n-mix I've spent
I've ogled at such as Lara Croft
though I live the life of a Clark Kent

    To Gods also I've earnest-prayed
    and fed church-thermometers too
a boon denied is a boon delayed
so, to thine own-self be true!

A conscript to life I certain am
    I never asked to be
Though I volunteer to give a dam
I have to ask, Why me?

So, you have your medallions and gongs
    your silk-brocade, your Jimmy Choos'
    your Beckham-undies and your thongs
your chat-shows and your fancy dos

You seek to bestow on common folk
    some token of esteem
Truly, would it make you choke
    (as it does sometimes seem)
to make good with what the common lacks
You earn from us, so pay some TAX!
