The post you are reporting:
My father up until he died a few years ago, did like many others always attended the remembrance day service in Dover, I can not remember him ever missing and he went because again like others he wanted to reflect and show his respect to the fallen and those he had served with during WW11. I also attended over the years for the same reason, "Respect" because like my father I had lost colleagues who I served with in Northern Ireland.
I know if Dad where alive today he would say he served his Country, his King and Queen and the flag but that he did not now require a flag he was proud to serve under to show respect. Respect comes from the heart and it matters not if there is a Union Flag at the memorial or not, it is a place to go to remember, to reflect and show respect to the fallen of All Nations who have served our Country in war.
For the last three years I have attended the Service at the River Church to lay a wreath there on behalf of Crabble Corn Mill, there was no flag but my thoughts were the same and so was my total respect, respect that comes from the heart inside not a flag outside.
I do think some have and are missing the point of why the War Memorial is there in the first place. Yes it may be good to see our Union Flag, a flag I was brought up proud of.at our War Memorial, but in no way do I see it as essential or disrespectful for it not to be there.
I would also just like to point out to a few of you, that those that have made the final sacrifice, did so to give us the freedom to express our point of view and respect the point of view of others.
I may disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Time for some I think to calm down and respect that right.
