20:4573032Cllr Nigel Coller has been taken off the talks between DDC and Dover Town Council over the Public Toilet issue, this is strange because Nigel is Portfolio for Access and Property Sevices (public buildings) and his place has been taken by Cllr Pat Heath Portfolio Holder for Health,Well Being and Public Protection.....It's strange....or is it.
Nigel obviously got caught with his trousers down when he shut the Toilets in Dover last January and got a lot of stick from the Press and the Forum,so they now bring in a Deal Cllr, some would say to protect Nigel from the anger of the Dover Public if they do close again, and remember he will be fighting an election in May and his ward covers one of the Toilets.Smells to me!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

21:1173035So you don't get the bigger picture then John.
Dover will close all of the Deal toilets and Deal will close all of the Dover toilets.
They will think you won't have any one local to whinge to then. sorted.
But we know better don't we boys and girls.
Oh my god, panto season is upon us.

22:0673037Mmmmm. I suspect all is not as straightforward as you suggest JHG and your enthusiasm to tar Nigel is explained by your comments regarding the election. So just who is playing politics here - not Nigel and maybe not even DDC....

09:0573075i think it is a good thing that nigel is not involved now, otherwise it could just turn into a slanging match and a political football rather than a pragmatic dicussion on non political issue.

09:2173078Can someone explain to me, in words of not too many syllables, why people expect toilets to be provided free of charge by the council? Surely if a modest fee were charged, say 20p, for entrance to the facilities, they would be self-funding? Or, like the car parking, might even make a modest profit.

09:3073080I will talk to Charlie. Perhaps we can mount a People's bid for the Dover loos, to operate them as a commercial venture for the benefit of the town.
It would of course be done under the auspices of David Cameron's Bog Society.

12:0473099i suggested the same on here before, i would be prepared to pay 50 p if the facilities were good.
the charlton centre had real problems with vanadalism and drug users until they charged for use.

12:3473108As I have said before 'bring back/bring in pissoires.
Most need of the facilities is by men who have drunk too much of the 'falling over water'.
All they/we need is a secluded place to connect with the storm drains.
Let's celebrate our close ties with Europe by putting them in Dover?
(If they catch on over the rest of the country they could become the start of a cottage industry? Fnarrr. Fnarrr.)

16:5973140What a fuss over a straight forward change of responsibilities. Pat Heath has a smaller workload than Nigel and as Barry and Keith will re-collect in previous days public toilets were the responsibilty lof the Environmental Health Chairman which effectively is the role Pat H. has now.
Just a switch back to balance the workload.

17:3673145Bob, you'd probably have to contend with the Environment Agency, they managed to stop burials in parts of Dover!!
