  Senior UKIP M.E.P. defects back to Conservatives
  
  David Campbell-Bannerman is coming home to the Conservatives after joining UKIP in 2004. he is a former UKIP chairman and deputy leader.
  
  He says:
  
  "I have been increasingly impressed by the leadership shown by David Cameron in dealing with this country's problems. In particular, the Government's determination to clean up the economic mess left by Labour.
  
  "Similarly in Europe, I have been pleased with the robust stance taken by David Cameron and Conservative MEPs over the EU budget negotiations and I believe that it is Conservative MEPs who are working hard to defend Britain's interests. In contrast, as a member of UKIP I witnessed too many colleagues obsess with single issue politics, internal fighting, and shouting from the sidelines. This behaviour does nothing to serve the best interests of the British people.

  i saw the headline and thought that maybe vic had retired.
  
  instead we get another self serviing politician realising that he had jumped the wrong way and is now trying to further his ambitions with his old party.
  
  he kn ew that ukip was mainly a single issue party when he joined nothing has changed.

  It seems that UKIP is imploding. Nigel Farage was on TV on sunday more or less saying he cannot control the membership. They do what they want and there is no cohesion..no plan..the membership wont listen to central control. One or two leading members have called for his resignation too, even though he is only back in the leadership job a wet day. So they appear to be experiencing something akin to disarray.
  
  I think Campbell-Bannerman has probably recognised that UKIP are shuffling backwards, even though they claim more people are voting for them. The party could be over for them.

  That's why I opposed the idea of putting up paper candidates for the sake of putting them up: it would have only confused people, split the vote, and opened the door for Labour's return.
