In what has to be one of the daftest stories out today is that the maverick Mayor is considering giving Spurs Football club £8.5 million to revamp their ground. The idea is to try and keep Spurs at White Hart Lane rather than them moving into a new ground. The money will come out of a fund earmarked for riot torn Tottenham.
Now don't get me wrong I love football but Spurs get about £14 million a year from TV rights alone, lucrative advertising deals add to their pot, they pay their manager and players ridiculous salaries and dabble in the transfer market buying & selling players at £17 million a pop.
Should tax payers money be used to prop up this club?

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

on reflection spurs may need that 8.5 million squid to help cover there legal costs at the high court.seeing they are in dispute with west ham over the stafford stadiam after the olimpics.

I didn't know there was talk of them moving from White Hart Lane Marek.
I think it would be mad for them to move, but I'm not even a football fan, so I ought to keep my mouth firmly shut.

they still have eyes on the olympic stadium but the likelihood is that they will lose out.
wherever they move will not be far, certainly not out of london so why is the mayor offering to throw money at them?

I thought they had already lost out on that Howard, maybe wrong of course.
Surely their presence in their current location is good for the community - business and residential ?

roger, rumor has it that white hart lane spurs home ground is being turned into a riot center for yobs and educated/working yoof to play in without causing damage to the area which was affected in the last riots.it has to be booked in advanced with a deposit of 1000 pounds per rioter.

This isn't straightforward, without Spurs Tottenham would be even more of a dump, they want a bigger stadium but are having problems with developing the existing site so are looking elsewhere, if they move out of the area it would be catastrophic.
Also, the ticket office and megastore were looted and smashed up, so the money from Boris probably isn't as crazy as first seems.
