Well yes and no Howard. This problem has been made much worse since the new bin regime and nothing appears to be done about it. The reason we have the bin regime is because of what is known as renewable obligation certificates brought in by Brussels in order to combat, well you know.
Fines run into the millions if councils do not recycle enough.
So what's happened is that the local authority have dictated that we all have these stupid bins and then felt very worthy and good about themselves and thought that might be the end of it. Well it's not I'm afraid.
Not only have they made our streets even uglier than they already are they have managed to create a situation where this sort of thing is increased exponentially.
It's ludicrous frankly. I refuse to have these bins in my front garden even though there is plenty of space for them. The fact that these bins are an eyesore is not acceptable as a reason for not wanting them. So I'm refused purple bags and just take my rubbish to the tip on the way to Tesco.
So in the end who gains?
We don't.
Nobody does except the manufacturers of the wheelie bins.
