    It is this myth we have along with its god-like status that prevents it from being improved. No politician dares to speak the truth and to carry out the fundamental changes it needs. My experience of the French system suggests it is preferable to the NHS but the German system, among others, is better.

    As kids we were all fed that the NHS was the 'envy of the world' utter poppycock. If it was so good then why did other countries not copy it? No, they learned from our mistakes and provided themselves with better now it is time to learn from them.

    Jan - the British people deserve better than the 'imperfect' NHS and yes it needs improvement, in fact dumping completely. True there is no perfect system but there is a lot better out there than the NHS.
