it was taken on the other side of the gliding club not far away, Kath, in Singledge Wood.
I suspect all the woodland in that area - Singledge, Eastling Down, cane Wood, the Wilderness, other Waldershare Park woodland, and maybe Willow Woods and the woodland around Tilmanstone too, was once part of a larger complex. Check it out on Google Earth - it is much more obvious viewed aerially.
In fact there was once a forest stretching from Canterbury as far as Ringwould. Our woodlands are fragments of that. East Kent is of course far less wooded than the central and western parts of the county.
Nevertheless we live in one of the three most wooded counties in England, Sussex and Surrey being the others.
