At the Dover Society meeting this evening DHB mentioned that in August they should be removing the superstructure of the Spanish Prince wreck off the end of Prince of Wales Pier. Not expecting anything as spectacular as the raising of the Mary Rose as they are apparently only removing to allow 8m of water above the lowest of low tides

Incredible picture! I knew it was there but certainly didn't appreciate the size of it.
I'm surprised that DHB don't remove it completely. It must still present a bit of a hazard for the deep-draught cruise ships entering and leaving the harbour.

I understood that it actually helped direct the strong currents coming through the western entrance. This keeps the channel clear of silt.
It is a great picture.

Amazing picture, there must be concerns re the silt as it will alter the flow quite dramatically.

Great picture Paul, and a good insight into google ocean or whatever in years to come when our whole coast can be scanned.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

It does appear that a lot of money has been spent on hydrodynamics by DHB so I am sure that this has been considered - it could always be that is detrimental to the silt movement and could improve the situation inside the harbour

I thought that the silt problem was resolved when the break-waters were built. Can silt still get in the harbour with the break-waters about?

Thanks, Brian. Only, I didn't say that I don't like Europe!
