  this may be a consequence of young, black males being significantly more likely to underachieve at school, to be excluded from school and to be unemployed after school.
  When you feel detached from society and worthless you have very little to lose and many of these young people do feel that.
  Some interesting talk on the radio this morning of gang culture providing stability and role models (albeit totally inappropriate and undesirable) for many inner city youngsters. The answers will be complex and need careful thinking through but I suspect we will get a knee-jerk response from politicians who want to be seen to be 'potent'.
