The weekend has come around again and we are asked to spend an hour counting how many visit us.

Waste of an hour for me - 1 seagull, 4 collared doves and 3 small birds that were too far away to identify.

Round here I think all the B feral pigeons and crows have driven most of the small birds away so I no longer sit and watch, luckily sparrows nest in a nearby hedge so their numbers seem about the same as last year. Starling numbers are definitely down, very few blue or great tits and have not seen the wagtail so far on my drive this year which is a shame.
They might be back once all the demolition and building work on the old Sorting Office has finished, I certainly hope so.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Results now through and agree about the sparrows but don't remember seeing a starling for ages. My usual wood pigeon doesn't visit but I have seen it munching on red berries from a tree visible from my garden.

We haven’t seen any starlings this year either. Plenty of wood pigeons, blackbirds, thrushes, jackdaws, collared doves, sparrows, blue tits, wrens, magpies, robins and the occasional buzzard causing a bit of a stir. On one occasion we also saw a brambling on the bird table.
