Birds nests
- 7 December 2011 17:13141372every year about this time i am puzzled by this.
the two trees next to the stagecoach office are full of nests but others have none.
this one is at the the folkestone road roundabout.
- 7 December 2011 17:31141376Ah ..nice pictures Howard. Yes a while back I noticed the nests on top of that tree. I am assuming they are crows nests, always way up high. I remember where I lived in the Emerald Isle all them years ago.. the crows this time of year frequented in big style the trees around my house...they made a fab sound of cawing and twittering and so on especially at twilight. Always liked them myself, although to some they are a tad spooky...being all black and of the devil.
They always get a starring role in hammer horror.

the branches do look stronger but wouldn't that mean a predator like a cat could get up there? - 7 December 2011 19:13141397Yes there does seem to be lots of crows nests around at the moment.
- 7 December 2011 19:21141399Brian is right Howie it's a rookery. Those particular trees have been used for many years and will still be used when you and I are gone.
Many birds will if given the chance use the same nesting place year after year ( crows are notorious for it ) and those trees could have been used for quite a long time, as long as I can remember ( 35yrs ) go even further back and there could have been a good excuse for establishing in the first place.

this photo was taken today and shows that it is not just carrion crows that are attracted to the fork in trees.
we in dover are much more inventive.
