Yes for years and years the Labour Party, prior to the Tony Blair revival, had been utterly condemned widely be every variation on media out there. The Murdoch press was so right wing as to make the Tories look like central groundists. This hammering went on day after day, it was well known that to win an election Labour had to fight two opponents... the Newspapers and the Conservatives. This was well debated in London amongst the chattering classes.

News at Ten was the big TV news programme then, with massive viewers, and again was biased in favour of the Tories. The BBC News was just a lowly shadow then. The BBC news has grown to be THE major news since then.

So with that came a shift in balance but as Ross said its a fair shift. Prior to that the media was too heavily Conservative.
