Scam Tesco calls. Noticed over the last two months my mobile bill has trebled! Turns out it is a scam Tesco contact number that bills you £1.50 for every call, even if you don't answer it! the number you will see is 700034065 this will continue unless you text STOP ALL 65488. I was just about to give T-Mobile an ear bashing when I realized I'd been conned. Will be checking my account daily now for a few weeks!!!
I'd like to agree with you but then we would both be wrong!!

Also doing the rounds at the moment are scam BT emails asking for your account details etc, plus beware of emails from your contact list saying they are stranded in India etc asking for cash

When i looked into this scam it proved to be a scammer's piggy-backing on a legitimate site, that's why it fooled me.
I'd like to agree with you but then we would both be wrong!!

Another one to be aware of which I've had recently:
01916456000
Got a call from 01916456000? Report it and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
To get more details tap this number into your search engine and read some of the postings, it's a scam.
I always ask for a withheld number and say I will call them back and then check online.
Do nothing and nothing happens.

Be aware!
Another old scam which a lot of people have been caught out on in Sussex recently is card cloning. This particular one is ongoing and is mainly affecting those who have been using Pay at the Pump facilities; cards are cloned and money is being withdrawn in the USA.
In some cases there is no visible interference, or indeed needs to be, as there are more sophisticated methods, as per this link:

My wife's had some interesting texts on her mobile. Allegedly from EDF(two) and from NPower both asking for meter readings. We're not with either. What's going on there?

Latest scam.
This is a message from your NHW liaison officer for the East Division.
A message from Trading Standards re microsoft Windows 10:
Beware the 'Microsoft Phone Scam'
With the release of Windows 10, the scam known as the 'Microsoft phone scam' is likely to rear its ugly head again.
Microsoft operating system chief, Terry Myerson, announced at the launch that current users of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to upgrade to the new operating system for free as long as they do so within one year of the Windows 10 launch on 29 July 2015. Once you install the upgrade, it's permanent.
So if you, or anyone you know, is contacted by someone claiming to be from Microsoft and asks for payment to upgrade or payment for support for Windows 10, it is a scam and you should report it to Kent County Council Trading Standards on-line or by calling 03454 040506.
Microsoft have a frequently asked questions about Windows 10 which is a u seful source of information.

An Urban Myth - even premium rate numbers are limited to how much per minute they can charge.

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
