a planning application has gone in for change of use at 40 pencester road to a betting shop.
if successful this would mean in that road, 2 more in the town centre and another 2 just outside. as far as i can recollect.

It could also mean that one of the existing ones wants/needs to move.

the problem with the modern day betting shops are the machines that pay out high jackpots, causing people to get hooked.
betting on horses and dogs is a loser for the bookies only the older customer still bets on such things.

there is a difference between betting and gambling keith, most people put aside an amount of money they can afford to lose when betting.
sadly others get caught up and spend the electricity/gas/phone bill money expecting to get a return.
i used to know the manager of betfred in pencester road who was a keen better on horses, when he was on a run of winners he immediately stopped and kept the money, that is the secret.
he recounted to me of a customer at his shop that won 200 quid on a machine for an outlay of ten quid, the bloke then proceeded to feed the machine until all his winnings had gone.
that is an illness rather than a hobby.
