Ah Howard I dont think that link shows the actual top ten there, at least yours truly cant find it but nothing new for me there...lol!...but I will tell you what i dont like..is that new Sherlock Holmes. Being a fan of Sherlock Holmes in general and a one time avid reader, I cant accept, or get me head around Dr Watson as a Blogger and a whole host of other aspects. There is a whole quota of ill fitting modernisms, it just doesnt work for me.
The whole appealing thing about Sherlock Holmes was the era in which it was set. The horses, the carriages, the dastardly villains, the gas lit streets, the fog, the deer stalker clothes, the shady East End...I cant imagine for a minute Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson passing through a one-time grisly Whitechaple with the inevitable McDonalds in the shot.
Its just not working. ..for me anyway. I dont know what level of viewing figures its getting. maybe others like it.
Its one of my favourate programes Paul , I love the books and have the complete ITV series on DVD , I also liked the recent film with Robert Downey and Jude Law, for me the modern adaptation manages to capture the spirit of the originals I really enjoyed last nights episode ,

Ah thanks Howard. Ive got it at last. Interesting to see that the No1 show was our noted Danish import. Yes Ive seen The Killing and its going down well with the chattering classes in Fulham and Kensington etc etc but its the only one of two Ive seen out of the Top Ten listed there. The other being Rev which I wasnt awfully keen on.
Glad you are liking Sherlock Sarah. I wonder if its a male female divide on this one...all de wimmin around these parts like it.
lol!
One other noted return, over the Christmas period anyway, was AB FAB. I was always a huge fan but its now looking like yesterdays heroic effort...sadly. It was partly enjoyable but some classics are probably best left as classics.

I'm with you on the new Sherlock Holmes PaulB I don't like it either and only watched the first one as it was filmed near where I used to work. I have the box set of the old style Sherlock and love it. I like the films though, nothing to do with Jude Law being in it honestly
I enjoyed Ab Fab as well, I'm a long standing fan but I didn't find it as funny as the old ones. I still can't get my head around Saffy being in prison, that just didn't work in my opinion.

Ab FAb was a bit of a curates egg, but mostly on the bad side for me. Like many things, it should have been left alone. I believe they are considering a movie........? Please , no.

surprised they have brought that back, had its time.
i remember birds of a feather suffering the same fate when they changed scriptwriters and brought in people that simply couldn't act.
i think it best to go out on a high rather than try to reclaim past glories.

I like the modern Sherlock; I like Benedict Cumberwhatsit and his quirky portrayal of Holmes - it's a hit for me, but Jean doesn't like it much.

Well I gave Sherlock Holmes another go last night as it featured my favourite Conan Doyle/ Sherlock Holmes story...The Hound of the Baskervilles. Well I dont know..twas awful. They have modernised the whole thing, and fair enough I can understand someone having a try at such, but this particular 'Hound' wheeled in everything drippily ordinary, topping off with an area 51 type military establishment carrying out experiments on animals..hence the big hooooound. Oh dear! all the menace went right out of it, all the eerily hint of the supernatural, all the menace of the moors..all gone. What we were left with was a Dr Who derivative with a modern day bombastic but awful Holmes running hither and tither like a frantic and frenetic fidgety frisbee without even a hint of the charisma needed.
Oh no.......no more!!
Make it stop!

As I'm suffering from empty nest syndrome again after the Christmas and New Year festivities, I'm looking at TV a bit more than usual so I was pleased to have the great new Danish political drama 'Borgen' to watch on Saturday night (see danes thread) and Sherlock last night. I enjoyed Sherlock last week but not so much last night, agree with PaulB, it had a bit of the Doctor Who about it. Now I do like a bit of Doctor Who now and again but don't expect it with my Sherlock
I see that the Great British Bake-Off is number 2 in the ratings, I enjoyed that, they have another one coming shortly with Celebrities (who hasn't these days) with Strictly at number 4 and the great Frozen Planet at number 6, two other programmes I enjoyed.
Loving the new Dancing on Ice which started last night but of course the highlight of all, the new 'Desperate Housewives' yay!!!! Told you I was watching a lot of telly!

I am watching the repeats of Lewis while I am 'playing' on the computer. I have to admit having the TV on a lot while doing other things but very seldom just sit and watch it.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Endeavour, a minor complaint Morse did not resemble the older Morse in looks.

Jan....have to agree with you there about Endeavor, really enjoyable two hours of TV even liked the guy who played Morse, have enjoyed the Sherlock holmes but have to say was somewhat bemused with this weeks episode, have to agree with PaulB some stories you can not put into modern times.
Also a fan of Doctor Who.

If you like a bit of Dickens, as I do, then tune into BBC2 tonight at 9pm to The Mystery of Edwin Drood, episode 1/2, part 2 tomorrow same time. Should be interesting to see this thriller based on Dicken's unfinished final novel.
I also loved Endeavour, there's talk of a series coming up too
Bern, If Ab Fab do a movie, it will be hard to resist, I expect most fans will want to go to see it.

Ab Fab, like marmite you love it or hate it, I hate it maybe because I have never found Jennifer Saunders funny.
