Than you Jan - I really do appreciate you, all of you. I have reprinted below what I put on the Berns Blog thread. It is a relief to be able to report some good stuff, but that does not make the bad stuff go away.

"Of course I haven't named the hospital, for Gods sake!! Not a witch hunt, a revealing of facts. And part of the reason (only part) that I feel to angry is that I understand the issues, understand the challenges for the staff and the organisation, and cherish the NHS.

Those of you who find it a challenge to believe that any part of the NHS is at fault (bless) might take comfort from the following, which will be in the next part of the blog. The last couple of days and nights - my Mother is near the end - the nursing has been like being carried on gossamer and silk scarves on the breath of fairies. The entire teams, day and night, have been completely fabulous. The care, skill and kindness shown has been not only lovely to see, and lovely to be able to tell you about, but a relief- because yes, indeed, it was really all as bad and as painful as I wrote. The last couple of days have restored in me something of a confidence in the nursing available and I am very very grateful to those nurses, who have done considerably more than just be good at their jobs.

Alan - Bibbuf - why so angry at me? What I have reported is simply what I have seen - I will big up and report the great bits as well in the next blog and will take enormous pleasure in doing so. It is not my fault that it was so crushingly bad for the first few days. And why not blog? The complaints system is not a good one, and you and I should know by now that following a complaints process is often a waste of time. Grow up, really. You have a right to know what may happen in your hospitals. Nothing I have written is inaccurate or incorrect - you will have to live with it. You have not upset me (thank you Jan) you are just typical of many people who cannot take any possible hint that you might not get what you think if you are sick and vulnerable. There are indeed lots of pockets of good practice, but - and here is the big secret - there are many more pockets of poor practice, abuse and neglect. Please do not be surprised when you stumble on one and are damaged.

Thank you to all those nurses over the past couple of days who have been so terrific. You have done more than care for my Mother and I, you have helped to restore some confidence in parts of the system. And those who have jibbed at this blog - these good nurses are also let down by the appalling management and practice that I have seen and thagt matters too."
