Hi Guys - you may remember my Blog that dropped out of the poor experiences I had with K&C stroke unit. It is still sitting there to the left of this post. I need to update it because I am frankly blown away by the outcomes and chain of events that have ensued - I met with K&C today to have a look at things since my blog, and they are amazing!
I will do a proper blog posting with more detail a little later, but I just wanted to share with you that incredible changes have taken place and that K&C have really run with the ball on this, rising to the challenge and learning from what could have been disastrous. They have, crucially, taken pieces of criticism, examined them, learned from them, and put in place a remarkable series of events and action plans that have and will continue to impact on patient care and the development of nursing talent. This is good news for patients and relatives, but also for the nursing staff - there were some major concerns and bad practices in place, but alongside that there were some good and charming nurses itching to be allowed to nurse properly and they deserve that opportunity.
My Mother and I had an exceptionally dreadful experience and her end of life was made difficult, and I complained (and some....!) but out of that has come a real uplift in practice and opportunities. I was, almost, speechless! It was also possible to see that there was the will and volition to make it work, a real drive to succeed. It was fabulous. Indeed, I will probably nick a couple of their ideas and tweak them a little for my own services!! It is this way that practice and services grow, develop and improve.
More to follow on the blog, but bottom line: well done Naomi and K&C. It is a real talent to turn around a negative and lay such positive foundations on which to build.
