    I don't understand.

These benches were never designed to uncomfortable. I would like to know if the designer is aware that her work is being chosen for its lack of functionality. These benches have been installed in other places and I doubt that they were chosen for the same reason as DTC have given - although I would suggest function follows form on this one.

So that only leads to the question: how and why was this design chosen by DTC?

Personally I would like to think that the choice was just whimsical, with no consideration, and that this micro-social-engineering is just post-rationalisation in response to someone pointing out that people didn't like them.

If this isn't the case then this exposes a far deeper concern than just a lack of consultation; it represents a deep misunderstanding of aesthetics and design that can only be counterproductive for the future of Dover.
