- 20 March 2011 09:4197750Yesterday my Son helped me to sort out the loft space .Boxes and boxes of photos ,Cards ,Letters and most interestingly old press cuttings .These go back to the Seventies .
I must say the foremat of The Dover Express was much better then and not so many adverts .
One particular newspaper October 2002 when Labour were in control at DDC .Very very interesting .Even Vic is mentioned .Photo of our Keith looking very important on the stage of Dover Town Hall
2002 when Labour wanted to impose 3million cuts over three years .They announced cuts which were a big con and they never intended to introduce them any way .
I was Chairman of Scrutiny at that time and the scrutiny of the buget took a very long time
When the Conservatives left office in 1993 there was 7million in reserves .
The Labour group went on to make sweeping staff cuts
Why do i talk about this now you mught ask ??Well you have to have a long memory in politics .
Im not a Right wing Tory and have always fought for the under dog however as has been proved whether at local or national level the Conservatives manage budgets well .
If the last Labour Government had not increased the national debt we would not be facing the drastic decisions which we are faced with today .
I recommend a brouse through old newspapers.

Yes we all have long memories, and it's your choice to introduce politics into a thread and of course it cannot go un contested.
so lets look into what you say;
on the issue of the town hall meeting, i told my group at the time it was a fiasco but like all 3 groups the move away from officer led councils which is part of the problem.
labour aint perfect, but as you know lets watch others if we want to be fair
Cutbacks to C.AB plus many more voluntary bodies locally, but won't go on as thread will go on for pages lol
and let's go back even further
when the tories were in government i nearly lost my house through interest rates rising for some time 17% so please don't preach to me sue.
your in wrong party if you are wanting to look after the the under dog.

In one of the press cuttings you are referred to as 29 years old .Time marches on .
Not going to get into a heated debate as I to recall the early seventies .Shall only say once again too much money in the past decade has been thrown out on useless projects

Reading the papers though I saw picture of the late Peter Wells .I did write to him when he lost his seat as I had a lot of respect for him.At the budget scrutiny meeting he did get rather heated but he apologies to me .

Yes we worked together on a number of different projects many varied subjects, usualy had very similar views.
