After seeing many houses and many areas the two areas we liked best were:
River
Whitfield (but not the part near Tesco).
It's a toss-up between the two.

Thanks for your replies.
With Whitfield we liked the 1st part but there's something not right about the part near the old archer's court school.
River was very nice. Lots of quiet streets. Well maintained houses etc.
We found Temple Ewell a bit nothingy but it was recommended to us.

Steve, forget those pretendy villages (Sue alert!) and get yourself 2 more miles out to Lydden - rubbish broadband, poor mobile signals and no shop keeps the prices down but lovely views, 10 minutes from Canterbury if shopping's you're thing, and best of all in easy walking distance of the Carpenters Arms at Coldred

10 minutes to Canterbury? Do you charge people to see your collection of speeding tickets?

From 30mph limit to 30mph limit, hairy but (just) legal if the lights are green

Got to say Coldred is a lovely place, if I stay local for many more years to come I may just move there. I used to live in River, very nice place. Stay away from Dublin end can get noisy and noisy youths hang around the Co Op at night. aside from that it would have to be River over Whitfield any day. I think Whitfield is overpriced for what the area is.

The Continental bit, being Eastern Europe. I think Howard made a spelling mistake in his posting above - should have been "furniture distastefully arranged". The laughter only comes from those playing the loud music.
