the elite were seated under cover so that they would not have their sensibilities offended by us peasants.
the veterans were naturally looked after as it is their day after all. i believe that 9 fliers from those years were in attendance.

sadly these events tend to attract some shady characters, this one was trying to get into the v.i.p. enclosure.

Helped set up a couple of tents there yesterday with the re-enactment group.
It was so wet and waterlogged that we had to leave before the vehicles got bogged in, am so pleased it turned out good today although I could not attend.
A Dutch couple visiting the site yesterday stayed and chatted between downpours and were on their way to camp at War and Peace in Deitling and said that they had never seen it so bad.
Thanks for the pics Howard.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

#3 top picture, a nice example of a pre-war Humber Super Snipe dressed up as an RAF staff car. By the standards of those days it was a large, comfortable, powerful saloon, relatively cheap and ideal for transporting the top brass around. Capable of almost 80mph, it was also the fastest thing around.

Sorry Peter but the car is a pre-war Hillman Minx, the Humber was much larger.

agree on both counts jan, the incredible veterans deserve to be remembered in a big way for their exploits all those years ago and our council chairman always makes the effort to look the part at these events and ceremonies.
