The Dour still gets cleaned at set times of the year by volunteers. It looks a mess because people use it as a bin. Settees, bikes, scooters, chairs, shopping trollies etc get thrown in. It have a number of friends who help out every time there is a Dour clean organised. Next one is 16th July. The volunteers meet up in Morrisons car park at 09.30 hrs. Get their waders and hi viz jackets plus litter pickers and off they go. There is always room for extra volunteers to actively help improve Dover and collect the rubbish, so generously dumped, by those who don't care for the town or the environment. So do join and do your bit or as you walk past, acknowledge the efforts of the volunteers at least. They could be sat at home, feet up waiting for another to clear up the mess, like the majority in Dover do. Look in Pencester Gardens where the drunks and wacky baccy smokers hang out and see what they do with their empty cans and bottles. The rubbish that ends up in the river because of lazy uncaring people and lack of bins chokes the life out of that chalk bed river. There have to be reeds etc in there to change the speed of water flow in places. It helps give a hiding place for baby fish and water fowl. If rubbish was not dumped in the Dour, it would not get caught in the plants. It's an asset to this town that should be appreciated by not being treated as a dump for any and all unwanted rubbish.
