  Would it not be more fruitful to examine the auditing process?
  
  I watched a programme on the development of the Kilogramme last night, part of the history mentioned Bankers being put in the stocks and inn-keepers being set to stand in a manure cart, when found wanting in the execution of their affairs.
  
  And again on Newsnight an avuncular banker preferred the idea of pursuing financial recompense rather than imprisonment, but as things stand so called rogue-traders do get to hear the key turn in the lock.
