    There's an old saying that giving capital to a banker is like giving a gallon of beer to a drunk. You know what will happen to it, you just don't know which wall he will choose.

    Removal of the Bank of England from the banking oversight system in 1997 was a very silly thing to do and allowed the banking crisis to unfold as it did.

    The burden of proof required to be satisfied in criminal fraud and theft trials is very tough so in future we need either better oversight or new laws to codify the bankers' past behaviour as specific new offences. Quite possible though, that shareholdres' action groups might pursue civil actions against those responsible. We could start with G. Broon.
