Bankers to supposedly face going to the nick
Totally politically protected scum,
No way will this lot be sent down; they have stolen billions from the British taxpayers
Helped and protected by the labour party, and the conservative party.

There's an old saying that giving capital to a banker is like giving a gallon of beer to a drunk. You know what will happen to it, you just don't know which wall he will choose.
Removal of the Bank of England from the banking oversight system in 1997 was a very silly thing to do and allowed the banking crisis to unfold as it did.
The burden of proof required to be satisfied in criminal fraud and theft trials is very tough so in future we need either better oversight or new laws to codify the bankers' past behaviour as specific new offences. Quite possible though, that shareholdres' action groups might pursue civil actions against those responsible. We could start with G. Broon.

Would it not be more fruitful to examine the auditing process?
I watched a programme on the development of the Kilogramme last night, part of the history mentioned Bankers being put in the stocks and inn-keepers being set to stand in a manure cart, when found wanting in the execution of their affairs.
And again on Newsnight an avuncular banker preferred the idea of pursuing financial recompense rather than imprisonment, but as things stand so called rogue-traders do get to hear the key turn in the lock.

All auditors can do is draw shareholders' attention to the fact that the horse has gone and that the stable door is wide open.

And when they fail so to do?
