buddy
i have been banging on for years that the bandstand should be made available to any local up and coming band over spring summer and autumn weekends.
when any music is played there the youth of dover congregate and listen, irrespective of whether it is to their taste.
there must be many would be musicians in our schools that would gain experience and confidence from performing in public.

Have you performed on there Richard ?
I remember a few years ago, the Town Council were going to organise regular music events there, but it was never done, just the odd one and most of those were disturbed by young bmx riders causing a nuisance.

The bandstand is operated by the Town Council while the park is operated by the District Council. As it now stands if the Town wanted to put anything on there it would either have to be limited to two hours or they would have to pay the District for use of the park.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I've seen BuddyG perform there, when was that, Richard? Was it a Hellfire Corner weekend one year?

chris
why not let a band play for two hours, then later another band for 2 hours?
if that is not possible just the two hours, gives our kids something to look forward to at weekends.

Hi Roger, Peter and Howard,
I have a poster which is from 2009 (July 4th)...I appeared with Elvis (Cliff Castle) and User Friendly which was sponsored by the Town Council, Bobby's Hotdogs, The Prince Albert and The Accommodation Shop.
It was a charity event in the glorious sunshine too, but I do recall some complaints from nearby peeps about the noise levels (Hellfire too) so maybe that has put paid to it all.
Shame, because the folks that were there really enjoyed the music, User Friendly were top notch as was 'Elvis'.
I would certainly pop up again if it all could be arranged....

Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

Too much RED TAPE.?
Too much paperwork.?
Maybe some old grouch ( the decision maker ) can't be bothered.?
or as you say, the neighbors complained.
Does anyone know the true facts.???????? would be interesting to know don't you think.

i haven't been to any event in pencester gardens where the music has been too loud, besides they finish early.
the music from the fair is definitely to loud and goes on later.
years ago john goodwin used to run a series of concerts on a sunday afternoon which attracted a core attendance of about 30 all aged in their seventies and eighties who thoroughly enjoed the music that was tailored to their taste.
attendances could not imprve due to the lack of promotion, it was word of mouth only that brought the people there.
going by memory john left the town council and not long afterwards the concerts stopped.
i queried on here why the concerts were not advertised and was advised by a town councillor that all details were on the town council website!!!

During my time with Hellfire Corner I don't think anyone complained about the sound level, well not to me at any rate. This may have been due to the fact that those nearby, i.e. Stembrook are mostly elderly and probably enjoyed the 40's music.
When I did the Horticultural Shows (this year it's Pets in The Park) I was mindful of the fact and kept the M.O.R. style of music at a moderate level.
By contrast during Priory Forum Fun Days there were complaints from as far away as the housing where Castlemount School used to be. These were local pop groups and I would suggest that it was the style of music rather than the volume.
There is no hard and fast rule laid down by Environmental Health regarding volume level which makes it difficult to judge whether what you are doing is allowable.
As to the fair, well, I don't know how they get away with it.

at the end of the day all except the fair are day time only events, don't see the problem with a bit of loud music, it's not as if it is every week.
rearding the sound heard at castlemount, a few years back i left a music event in pencester and went for a walk home over the heights, the higher it got the more clear the music was and about the same noise level.

It all depends on which way the wind blows Howard.
