We should tell Brussels to take a running jump. This issue must surely be covered by the rules on subsidiarity? If not we should tell them to take a running jump anyway.

According to the experts, there are always experts, and yes here they are popping up again telling us on the radio and on TV that this policy works. Raise the price and Joe Binge cant afford to stock up his booze laden larder at home, therefore will go out and have a nice quiet pint in the pub instead. Then because the costs are so high in pubs, the aforementioned Joe Binge will only be able to afford one pint instead of the previously quoffed 12 cans at home.
Chance will be a fine thing..as we used to say.
But one lives in hope that the blight of binge drinking can be sorted...I dont think it will be this easy though.
Then on the other hand, the quiet geezer at home will pay 40% more for his friday night bottle of Sauvignan Blanc and therefore will be penalised for doing no harm to anyone. He or indeed she pays the price for the yobbery. Ever upward goes the price of everything.
The EU legal aspect is another matter...will be interesting to see how it develops.

Got to be right there perhaps they want to turn all tea total, not much chance of that I fear.

The cutting of police numbers, the urge to build more prisons, the ever increasing list of laws to counteract the laws from last week and the delusion that it is best to be seen to be doing something (no matter what). None of this has anything to do with Jo Binge as his age-old customs and yet may have more to do with all this fuss.
The idea of a free six-pack with every purchase will not have escaped the supermarkets either.
Still, Mitsubishi-man has to know that his needs come first?

Yet again the majority suffers because of the mindless minority.
Until being pi$$ed in public is no longer seen as ok by some of the young night clubbers the situation will not improve, peer pressure has to prevail.
With my cynical hat on

, if supermarkets have to raise their prices who will benefit from the increase in profits, I doubt it will be their customers.

the criminal fraternity will be licking their lips over this, plenty of vodka stills around to under cut the spirit prices in the shops.
there is a demand for cheap superstrength lager and cider and we can be sure that it will be met.

Quite right, just tinkering, being seen to do something, all wind and drink related out-pouring.
The quickest way to do something positive for many sections of society would be to revoke the off-license of super markets and bring the trade back to the high street. The bothersome drunk would soon run short of suppliers and the prices could be reasonable.

not forgetting zero tolerance on anyone behaving in an abusive manner when the worse for wear and revoking licences on premises that serve someone who has clearly had enough.

Olly` alcohol plan is a good way to make us forget the `bad news`in the budget...........................
Tory backbenchers attack Olly for `inept`budget but they all agree with tax cuts for rich......surprised?

Why not raise the age to 25years with ID to buy alcohol from supermarkets, corner shop, garages etc, because this is where the problem started with the cheap booze or take away their licences to sell alcohol, government is to blame for current binge drinking. Lets go back to just Pubs and Off Licences.
