Prime Minister Cameron got agitated during Prime Ministers Questions today as the whole barnstorming process was drawing to a close. Ed Balls, Shadow Chancellor seated opposite, had been goading the PM it seems and eventually towards the end of the proceedings Cameron lost his cool and resorted to the unfortunate use of insult which has become his stock in trade in recent months.
Mr Cameron was hailing the government's economic strategy and said he wanted to find "innovative ways of using our hard-won credibility, which we wouldn't have if we had listened to the muttering idiot opposite me".
This brought about uproar...even viewing from the comfort of ones sofa one could feel the horror of it all. The Speaker of the House, John Bercow, when the uproar had died down and at one time it looked like it was getting out of control, asked the Prime Minister to withdraw the word "idiot" which he did...of sorts. But as with other recent apologies it was only half an apology.
Quite a fiery session indeed but all Mr Cameron's insulting behaviour is doing recently is bringing the office of the Prime Minister into disrepute.
I believe, although I didnt see this bit myself, he later apologised to Dennis Skinner for another remark he made a few weeks back, when he basically told Skinner that he was too old and should go and collect his pension. Which went down horrifically in the wider community.
He had to apologise prevously to several women in the House too for yet more insulting remarks...so woe woe thrice woe, is one-time dream PR man Cameron losing his cool? Is this something to do with the rise in Ed Milibands performance?
