Just been reading the Dover Express website coverage of the port privatisation story, and they quote Charlie Elphicke as saying: "At the end of the day, 98 per cent of people in Dover voted for the community port option." I don't think so. As I recall it 5,244 people voted in favour, with 113 against. That may be 98 per cent of those who bothered to vote, but it's certainly not 98 per cent of people in Dover. And don't forget the poll was restricted to those living within Dover Town Council's area, not those in surrounding villages who also have an interest in the port. If Mr Elphicke continues making those sort of claims (and the Express continue to report them without checking their facts), he and they will be on very dodgy ground.
